Following Format 21's online portfolio review sessions, we have partnered with the Format Festival to select 3 artists to participate in our Artistic Practice Support scheme. Over 150 artists met over two days with 70+ reviewers in close to 800 meetings. Our selected nominees are Maryam Wahid, Helen McGhie and Eelena Helfrecht. Congratulations to these artists.

The BJP's 1854 Portrait of Humanity Prize 2021 tells a vast breadth of stories from around the globe. In this year of unprecedented struggle, the message of hope, courage, reflection and resilience is now more important than ever. The Portrait of Humanity Global Tour will be held, as a free outdoor exhibition, at festivals in Melbourne, Belfast and Kerala throughout 2021, featuring all 30 winning images and three bodies of work. What Photography & Incarceration have in Common with an Empty Vase is the winner of this year's series category.

The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum & Grain Projects announce a micro commission (£700) opportunity, open to Midlands based photographers & artists to create new work in response to Edgar Martins' exhibition What Photography & Incarceration have in common with an Empty Vase. The PH Museum has named What Photography & Incarceration have in Common with an Empty Vase one of the best photobooks of 2020. According to the museum this book "offers a unique reflection on photography in terms of its limits and potential when documenting essentially invisible issues."
